Visit the homes of the original Robinson Crusoe and the creator of Peter Pan. Marvel at ancient writings on Pictish stones. Climb the tower dedicated to Braveheart and see the grave of Rob Roy. Imagine crucial battles at Culloden, Stirling Bridge and Glencoe. Wonder at the geological beauty of the Isle of Staffa and the Highlands. Find peace at St. Columba's Abbey on Iona. Golf mavens must see the Old Course at St. Andrews; the more scholarly and solitary will muse through St. Andrews University and the cathedral ruins. There is a little something for everyone on Rising Road's Taste of Scotland Tour. Day 1. Arrive in Edinburgh. Explore Old Town and the Royal Mile. Day 2. Visit Holyrood Palace and Rosslyn Chapel.
Day 3. Travel to East Neuk of Fife along the northern edge of the Firth of Forth. Enjoy the fishing villages and a stop at the home of Alexander Selkirk, the original Robinson Crusoe. Destination: St. Andrews. Day 4. Visit St. Andrews University, Cathedral ruin, and golf course. Day 5. Travel to Inverness visiting Perth and the Stone of Destiny in Scone Castle before traveling across the Highlands. Stops along the way include the birthplace of JM Barrie, Peter Pan’s creator, and ancient Pictish stones. Day 6. Visit Culloden Battlefield, Inverness Castle, Cawdor, Fort George, and the coastal village of Nairn. Day 7. Day trip on the train to the Kyle of Lochlash. Day 8. Travel to Invergarry with stops at Loch Ness and Urquardt Castle. Day 9. Day trip to Eilean Donan Castle. Day 10. Travel to the Isle of Mull. Sites include Duart Castle, Torosay Castle, and the charming seaside village of Tobermory. Day 11. Journey by ferry to the Isle of Staffa to view Fingal's Cave, puffin colonies and other natural wonders. Spend time on Iona, the island sacred to St. Columba. Day 12. Return to the mainland for visits to the ancient kingdom of Dal Riada at Kilmartin, Inverarry Castle, and travel through the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park on the way to Glasgow. Day 13. Day in Glasgow visiting the Hunterian Museum and Glasgow Cathedral. Day 14. Return to Edinburgh via Stirling, the Wallace Monument, and Balquidder for a visit to Rob Roy's grave.
